About CoRE:

On October 16, 2003, Chevron's Energey Technology Company (ETC) and the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) entered into a long-term agreement for purposes of establishing a Center of Research Excellence (CoRE).

CoRE is a partnership that allows ETC and CSM to leverage from each other’s expertise. “CSM is known through the petroleum industry for its focus on industry challenges, and for the quality of its students. The Geology & Geological Engineering Department brings world-class experts to our joint research effort. This relationship provides both organizations with opportunities to improve their respective capabilities and to better achieve their respective goals.”

The CoRE Focus Areas:

Education: focuses on making CSM a preferred location for Chevron (CVX) Business Units to send some of its best young, international employees for advanced degrees and acculturation so as to prepare for leadership roles

Research: focuses on CSM strengths and CVX long-term needs to leverage and broaden opportunities for both parties

Recruiting: focuses on helping CVX to identify and employ “the best & brightest.” This will be achieved through the broader CVX-CSM relationship and creating a greater understanding of CVX with CVX researchers and CSM researchers in the CoRE program

Training: focuses on cross-leveraging CSM and CVX courses and training capabilities to provide better and more diverse quality training opportunities for CVX employees and CSM students, faculty and staff
